Guidelines #
We strive for an open and lively discussion where all members feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions.
We also realize that in the aftermath of October 7 and the subsequent rise in overt antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment, the WhatsApp group is a refuge where members feel free to express their love of Judaism and Zionism. For some it may be the only place where they can do so safely.
To best meet these two goals, we have established several guidelines for participation in the WhatsApp group. Anyone unable or unwilling to comply with these guidelines will be asked to leave the group.
- Though not formally affiliated with the HJAA, members of this group are united in our support of the HJAA’s Mission Statement and Objectives and Requests.
- A key tenet of the HJAA’s Objectives and Requests is working for the adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism. We support the IHRA definition of antisemitism and urge its adoption at Harvard and elsewhere.
- We are Zionists. Legitimate criticism of Israel, and of Israeli government actions, is acceptable when supported by facts and evidence. Anti-Zionism is not.
- Political discussion is allowed, but it must be connected to our core topic of Judaism, antisemitism, and anti-Israel sentiment at Harvard and beyond.
- Be civil. Disagreement and difference of option is allowed and welcomed. Personal attacks are not.
- What is said in this group is private. Do not repeat anything said here without the author’s express consent.
There is room for discussion and disagreement within the bounds of these guidelines. The goal is not to create an echo chamber where no diversity of opinion is tolerated.
If you are not comfortable with these guidelines, this is not the group for you. Members repeatedly acting in contradiction to these guidelines will be asked to leave the group (we hope such occurrences will be exceedingly rare.)
